SILENT KILLER

What is High blood Pressure?

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a common condition in which blood flows through blood vessels and arteries with greater than normal pressure. Accounting for 7.5 million deaths annually, hypertension is the leading risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and premature death.

Normal Blood Pressure

Normal blood pressure for most adults is defined as a systolic pressure of less than 120 and a diastolic pressure of less than 80.

Elevated Blood Pressure & High Blood Pressure

Elevated blood pressure is defined as a systolic pressure between 120 and 129 with a diastolic pressure of less than 80. High blood pressure is defined as systolic pressure of 130 or higher, or a diastolic pressure of 80 or higher.

Silent Killer

Hypertension is most often asymptomatic until the occurrence of a severe medical event such as a heart attack or stroke. A lot of the time people have this condition, but they don't know or not seen by a health care professional for regular checkups.

Preventing and addressing hypertension

Specific lifestyle approaches, such as eating a healthy diet, exercising, and managing stress, have been shown to help prevent and treat hypertension.
