It has been used for centuries in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for its many health benefits. It is known for its ability to boost mood and increase energy levels while also aiding in the reduction of anxiety and depression. It is also believed to have medicinal properties that can help to improve cognitive functioning and memory, as well as reduce inflammation. According to a study, due to the high concentrations of L-dopa (4–7%), velvet bean is a commercial source of this substance, used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.” (1) Hence, the raw velvet bean seeds contain approximately 27% protein and are rich in minerals.” Mucuna pruriens (Fabaceae) is an established herbal drug used for the management of male infertility, nervous disorders, and also as an aphrodisiac.
